Recently I got a Google Android mobile phone "Samsung Galaxy I7500". While I'm loving playing with it, I also found some interesting secret codes which can enable/disable lots of hidden settings in the mobile phone. These codes can also show many useful information about the phone.

So in this topic, you'll get several hidden secret codes which can be used in any Google Android mobile phone to access things which are not accessible by default.

FYI These codes have been obtained by decoding various .apk files present in the phone firmware.

    *#*#4636#*#*

This code can be used to get some interesting information about your phone and battery. It shows following 4 menus on screen:

    * Phone information
    * Battery information
    * Battery history
    * Usage statistics

    *#*#7780#*#*

This code can be used for a factory data reset. It'll remove following things:

    * Google account settings stored in your phone
    * System and application data and settings
    * Downloaded applications

It'll NOT remove:

    * Current system software and bundled applications
    * SD card files e.g. photos, music files, etc.

PS: Once you give this code, you get a prompt screen asking you to click on "Reset phone" button. So you get a chance to cancel your operation.

    *2767*3855#

Think before you give this code. This code is used for factory format. It'll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage. It'll also reinstall the phone firmware.

PS: Once you give this code, there is no way to cancel the operation unless you remove the battery from the phone. So think twice before giving this code.

    *#*#34971539#*#*

This code is used to get information about phone camera. It shows following 4 menus:

    * Update camera firmware in image (Don't try this option)
    * Update camera firmware in SD card
    * Get camera firmware version
    * Get firmware update count

WARNING: Never use the first option otherwise your phone camera will stop working and you'll need to take your phone to service center to reinstall camera firmware.

    *#*#7594#*#*

This one is my favorite one. This code can be used to change the "End Call / Power" button action in your phone. Be default, if you long press the button, it shows a screen asking you to select any option from Silent mode, Airplane mode and Power off.

You can change this action using this code. You can enable direct power off on this button so you don't need to waste your time in selecting the option.

    *#*#273283*255*663282*#*#*

This code opens a File copy screen where you can backup your media files e.g. Images, Sound, Video and Voice memo.

    *#*#197328640#*#*

This code can be used to enter into Service mode. You can run various tests and change settings in the service mode.

    WLAN, GPS and Bluetooth Test Codes:

*#*#232339#*#* OR *#*#526#*#* OR *#*#528#*#* - WLAN test (Use "Menu" button to start various tests)

*#*#232338#*#* - Shows WiFi MAC address

*#*#1472365#*#* - GPS test

*#*#1575#*#* - Another GPS test

*#*#232331#*#* - Bluetooth test

*#*#232337#*# - Shows Bluetooth device address

    *#*#8255#*#*

This code can be used to launch GTalk Service Monitor.

    Codes to get Firmware version information:

*#*#4986*2650468#*#* - PDA, Phone, H/W, RFCallDate

*#*#1234#*#* - PDA and Phone

*#*#1111#*#* - FTA SW Version

*#*#2222#*#* - FTA HW Version

*#*#44336#*#* - PDA, Phone, CSC, Build Time, Changelist number

    Codes to launch various Factory Tests:

*#*#0283#*#* - Packet Loopback

*#*#0*#*#* - LCD test

*#*#0673#*#* OR *#*#0289#*#* - Melody test

*#*#0842#*#* - Device test (Vibration test and BackLight test)

*#*#2663#*#* - Touch screen version

*#*#2664#*#* - Touch screen test

*#*#0588#*#* - Proximity sensor test

*#*#3264#*#* - RAM version

The mobile operating system has been spotted at large before, in a series of leaked videos, though nothing was official on it until today, when Nokia announced that it would arrive both on the brand new devices, as well as on older ones.

The new flavor of Symbian, called Symbian Anna, sports a new user interface, along with a series of changes under the hood, meant to provide users with an enhanced experience.

Some of the main changes that the new OS flavor would arrive with include new, fresh icons, along with usability enhancements, such as a split-screen view while typing, along with a faster browser, or a virtual portrait QWERTY for fast typing, as well as refreshed Ovi Maps.

As stated above, the new software would be preloaded on the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6 smartphones, though it would also be delivered to older handsets, including the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6 and Nokia E7, which would receive it as PR2.0 update.

A quick look at the screenshots attached to this article would offer you an idea of what the changes are all about. More can be found in the video embedded at the bottom of this article.

Some of the specific enhancements the new OS would arrive with include:

Enhanced Browser (v7.3): high value touch UI improvements, including URL entry bar, always visible ‘Go Back’ and extended toolbar buttons and search-integrated address field; better user responsiveness, faster history navigation and page loading, split screen virtual Qwerty keyboard.

Enhanced Ovi Maps (v3.06): smarter search; Check-in to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquareor local social networks; ability to share places via email and SMS, and also with friends using non-Nokia phones; public transport network lines view; update and download full country maps via WLAN

Enhanced Ovi Store (v2.06.xx): improved search, including auto-complete, spell-checking and Internet search engine optimization and error fixes; increased file size limits for downloading over WLAN

Enhanced Social (v1.3): status updates in contact card, ability to retweet and view follower list in Twitter, higher resolution image uploads, ability to add caption to images

Enhanced Ovi Suite (v3.x): works seamlessly with the latest version of Ovi Suite to update the device software, download free street maps, download new music and discover the latest mobile apps, back up the device to keep content safe, and sync content with Ovi.

At the same time, we should note that Symbian Anna comes with instant messaging with Microsoft Communicator Mobile, which should prove a great option for business customers. They would also appreciate full meeting request support and hardware-accelerated device encryption.

Flashlite 4, Java Runtime 2.2, Qt Mobility 1.1, and Qt 4.7 are also included into the mix, targeted at application developers, Nokia notes.

“In coming months the software update,  will also be available as standard on newly shipping Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 devices, as well as available to download on previously purchased models of those same smartphones,” Nokia announced.

A new feature in Apple 'Find my iPhone' service could help boost the technology giant's smartphone sales.

Apple's current 'Find My iPhone' service allows you to locate your phone if it's lost or stolen.

However, Apple has filed for patent a new feature that can even allow the lost or stolen iPhone's owner to see or hear where it is located by remotely activating the phone's camera and microphone.

Moreover, the new feature will allow the owner of the lost/stolen iPhone to select specific files and apps and lock them. the owner can "scramble" them to protect them. After recovering the iPhone, the owner can unscramble them to recover the data.

This new feature has not been confirmed or announced by Apple but was found in the filings of the company published by USPTO.

The drawings and descriptions in the filings also suggest that the iPhone owner can pick and choose what data and applications can be accessed by the thief or the one who has found the lost iPhone.

The patent also describes that the thief/finder of the iPhone would get a message that the device is being pinged for its location. The thief/finder will then have two choice: either enter the correct password to cancel the request or contact the owner of the iPhone.

Incidentally, the 'Find my iPhone' service turned two years last week. The service was originally released as a part of the paid MobileMe service but it is now free for anyone with an iPhone 4, iPad, or 4th generation iPod touch (iOS 4.2 or later required).

The new feature of 'Find my iPhone' can decidedly swing sales in Apple's favor, as iPhone is currently struggling to keep pace with Android sales.

Apple has been facing a huge challenge from Android smartphones lately. According to a comScore report, the market share of Google's Android surged to 36.4 percent while Apple's IPhone dropped down to second place with 26 percent market share or barely ahead of RIM's BlackBerry (25.7 percent).

In terms of mobile phone sales in the U.S., Apple ranks No.4 (8.3 percent) behind Android smartphone makers like Samsung (24.5 percent), LG (21 percent) and Motorola (15.6 percent).

A Nielsen survey also reveals that Android users download more apps on average than iPhone users despite Apple's App Store being more than twice bigger than Android Market Place.

Dear Friends,
I found and tested this trick for speeding up our S60 handset and found it 100 % working!

1.)   Change your phones’ date to the 01.05.2005
2.)   Go to the calendar
3.)   Now we need to create two new  to-do’s (Options > New entry > To-do)
4.)   These two to-do’s need to have the following information:
To-do:
•   Subject: Speed
•   Due date: 04.08.2005
•   Priority: High
To-do:
•   Subject: Qoukie
•   Due date: 04.08.2005
•   Priority: Low
5.)   Confirm the both to-do notes with “Done”, but don’t close the calendar application.
6.)   Choose: Options > To-do view
7.)   Mark “Speed” as done, after that mark “Qoukie” as done.
8.)   Now you can close the calendar.
9.)   Change the phones’ date back to the actual day.
10.)   Enjoy your faster device!

Please revert with your experiences.

Nokia places a phone under a bunch of needle-sized water dispensers and then lets it drip all over the phone, which tests for resistance in situations like rain, or splashing from a pool.
The humidity simulation, which tests the durability of phones in up to 95% humidity, is helpful in determining if a phone will hold up in particularly damp areas like South and Central America, where gadgets don't have the longest lifespan.

Nokia also tests how the phone reacts to various liquids, creams and gels (lotions, hand sanitisers, etc...), since stuff like that tends to accidentally spill while sitting in a purse or backpack with the phone.

Tests for bending and twisting are pretty straight forward and self explanatory. Still, you can't help but cringe to see a phone placed in such an unnatural position. Nokia says when you have your phone in your back pocket and you sit on it, it's susceptible to bending.

One of the cooler stress tests that exists is the Drop test—not only because it uses a giant friggin' machine, but also because they record the drops using a camera that can record 100,000 frames per second, which is 3,000 times faster than the normal video camera. The videos are then analysed frame by frame, determining the degree to which a device becomes distorted upon impact. Check it out.
When Nokia drops a phone, they drop it from about the height of a shirt pocket onto concrete, since that's a likely scenario for dropped phones. They also attatch a phone under a steel device that pushes down 100 newtons of force.

Nokia has a series of wear and tear stress tests, when gauge the phone's ability to take bumps, scratches from daily use. Dust testing involves throwing a handful of phones in a dust filled box and letting everything co-mingle. How much dust gets inside? And do buttons stop working when foreign substances get under the surface? This is where you find out.
They also let phones roll around in a bunch of pieces of hard, pointy plastic to see where it might scratch, scuff or crack under duress. These pieces are like plastic chocolate chips and bite-sized pyramids, and they're pretty sharp. This phone met an unfortunate demise in the name of quality control.
